His system was useful in controlling temperature, filtering and managing humidity which constitutes all the components of the modern HVAC setup. Carrier later founded Carrier Air Conditioner Company, which resulted in many innovations such as centrifugal chillers which lowered the cost to replace HVAC systems and made cooling more cost-friendly.

The first split-system room air conditioner was developed by Frigidaire in 1929 and central air systems became available by 1931. Later in 1932, inventors J. Q. Sherman and H. H. Schultz introduced the first window air conditioner which was very expensive and the sales were low. In 1947, over 43,000 window AC units were sold out throughout the country and air conditioning had finally entered the American households, including Florida, where AC became almost essential for living.
Environment and Energy Efficiency
The Clean Air Act in 1990 led to the ban of CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons) replacing them with more environment friendly substitutes like HFCs first, then later in 2000s they were replaced with R-410a.
In 1993, the U. S. Department of Energy introduced SEER ratings and efficiency standards which made new AC services more cost-effective and environment-friendly.
